I have been reading rec.kites for most of the summer, and while I have made a few posts, I never gave a full blown introduction. While there have been lots of other additions to the fan club this past week or so, I thought I would get my word in... I am going to be a sophomore at Northwestern University, just north of Chicago, where I am studying electrical engineering. While I have flown kites off and on since I was a kid, I didn't get seriously involved until this past spring when a friend of mine from school let me fly her eight foot flexifoil. I loved the sensation and became interested in power kiting. I bought a Griffin, and I've enjoyed flying it most of the summer. Now, though, I am becoming interested in the precision aspect of kiting, as well. Two weeks ago, I met a couple who are responsible for competitions and such in my hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and I had an opportunity to see them fly. Now I am very interested in both extremes of kiting. I've enjoyed reading the postings here. I hope I can be of some help!
