Date: Thu, 16 May 1996 14:58:42 -1000 Organization: Bates College, Lewiston, Maine Message-ID: Hello all , I hope you with bear with me as i have a number of stupid questions for you guru's of the kiting world. i've read all the faqs i've been able to find so please don't flame me. if these are redundent, jsut point me at where i can find the info. thanks. 1. i found a list of all sorts of tricks and how to perform them the other day, but i cannot find it again. could someone point me at them? 2. (much more fun) I am an avid snowboarder (racer/instructor for six years) i had the stupid thought of affixing something to my feey and getting yanked around by a kite. anyone done this? i imagine someone must have. i could get/build a buggy, but i'd prefer just a footboard. i was thinking of getting a skateboard deck without wheels or trucks, using nylon to create footloops, and riding that. my thought was that the board could skim across an inch or two of water. (tidal flats) what do you think of that idea? the obvious problem with this plan is the need to find tidal flats. how do you think a board would slide on smooth sand? i was thinking of the wet/suspended sand as the tide recedes. how about a skateboard with turf tires? what should i use to tow? i'm a bit low on cash so a big quad foil might not be in my future. is it possible to get towed by a dual line kite? i flew a nine-footer that pulled hard enough the other day. is it possible to hang the thing out on the edge, get centered on the board, then toss it through the window and get towed? i realy don't know what i'm thinking about here, so please help me out. thanx... = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = From: daveculp@bdt.com (Dave Culp) Subject: Re: All sorts of questions... (tidal flats) what > do you think of that idea? I've known many who've had "hours of fun" just being pulled around on their feet, skidding through/over wet or dry sand, or on grass. Ditto on their butts (wear sturdy trousers). Really "lo-tech" traction kiting. Try to avoid being dragged on your face. Hilariously funny, but hard to form the required callouses... In all the above, water (of any depth) is to be avoided... Any really big kite will do; this "sport" was popularized with Flexifoils--often available cheaply second-hand (like from me--hint, hint), but as we're stressing really low cost solutions, here, it'd be even more fun if you did it with a borrowed kite. Borrow the best money can buy, that's my motto. ################################################################### Dave Culp Speedsailing | e-mail to: daveculp@bdt.com 312 Flaming Oak Drive | Pleasant Hill, CA 94596 | http://www.bdt.com:80/home/daveculp/speedsail.html #################################################################### = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = From: Bill Rogers Subject: Re: All sorts of questions...
