(1-800-827-6364) Subject: AKA Founder's Health I do not know if this has already been posted, but I have seen nothing, and you all deserve to know. Last month, Bob Ingraham, the founder of the AKA over 30 years ago, was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer. The doctors say he has 6 months to a year. Those of us lucky to have met Bob and his lovely wife Hazel, adore this generous, charming, kite flying couple. Everyone who has found something special in modern kiting owes a debt of gratitude to this couple and their dedication to a simple idea 30 years ago... Kiting is even more fun when shared! Bob is at home in New Mexico. His address is 315 N. Bayard St. Silver City, NM 88061 Cards and letters are welcome. Bob greatest concern is that his illness will deplete their savings and Hazel would suffer even more. If you wish to ackowledge the debt owed Bob in a practical way, send money. No back accounts, no middlemen. Straight to where it will do good. So many great people are never recognized in their hometown, let alone acknowledged within their life. Tal Streeter has written to the Silver City Museum to inquire about some recognition of Bob and his influence on kiting in America and the world. Preferably while he is still with us. Perhaps a letter or two from others would help. Susuan Berry is the Director of the H.B. Allman House, site of the Silver City Museum. Address is 312 West Broadway Silver City, NM 88061 Maybe you can help. One way or the other. Take a moment to thank this man for what he has given us. One in Kiting. aoxomoxoa coreykite@aol.com = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Wed, 27 Sep 1995 16:04:32 -1000 From: madrhino@teleport.com (madrhino) Message-Id: <44cvrg$4qc@kelly.teleport.com> Organization: Teleport - Portland's Public Access (503) 220-1016 Subject: AKA founder's health I have just received a phone call from a friend that Bob Ingraham health has changed for the worse. My friend says he only has a few days left at best. I await another call informing me that Bob has left us. Bob and I have been friends for over 20 years, and especially in the last 3-6 months have been really open about his health and eventual outcome. Last Sunday, I tried to call and talk to Bob again, but Hazel (his wife) told me that he was asleep. She talked with me, about Bob and his change ,,that he was sleeping more and more as his condition worsens. Well, my friend told me that Corey Jensen and Rick Kinnard (I think, forgive me if I got that wrong) stopped by Bob's place yesterday to see Bob on their way to the AKA convention. He was up and able to visit his friends as I was told but shortly after they left his condition worsened. Well, when Hazel and I talked last Sunday she did tell me that she was going to keep him home for his passing ( the most easy way for me to describe that us and the whole world will lose the founder of the American Kitefliers Association and one hell of a great man).... Thank you Hazel, you too have been one heck of a friend. When I get the call that Bob has entered that great kiteflying area above I will advise this group. Until then I know many great kitefliers that are waiting for him: Wyatt Brummit, Jack VanGlider, Bill Everett, Lee Toy, Steve Edekin, Dom Jalbert, and I am sure I am forgetting many many more, some known by us and some unknown (but should be) Sorry if I seem to be rambling, but Bob means a lot to me and kiteflying. When I have the sorry duty to announce the next step that he will take I am sure I will be in a much worse state of mind, but I will try to announce his passing with the respect HE deserves. And I hope those of you that have known him and those of you who never had the pleasure of meeting him but have been influnced by him,,,,will post your feelings of the passing of a great man in our field/hobby. In the meantime, those of you who fly 1-line kites, 2-line kites, 4-kites, 59cent kites, 200dollar kites, 5000dollar kites have fun and keep them in the air,,,,,we are all kids at heart with the dream of flight.
