Problem: -------- Flyers competiting in conferences with larger numbers of competitors have less chance of earning an invitation to compete at the AKA Convention, than flyers in conferences with fewer competitors. As a result many flyers are at a competitive disadvantage for earning an invitation to the AKA Convention. Proposal: --------- With the current conference system each conference gets to invite 3 flyers per event. This is a good starting point, but does not address the problem mentioned above. To acknowledge the conferences with more competitors and a, probable, higher level of competition within an event class, conferences can earn additional convention invitations for the following year. Each of the top 3 finishers at the convention will earn 2 invitations for their conference for the next year. For example: At the 1993 convention in Intermediate Individual Precision 1st place is a flyer from central conference 2nd place is a flyer from eastern conference 3rd place is a flyer from central conference So, at the 1994 convention in Intermediate Individual Precision the central conference gets 4 additional invitations and the eastern conference gets 2 additional invitations So that a single conference will not completely dominate an event class, a maximum of 4 additional invitations will be given per conference per event class. For example, if the top 3 finishes at the convention are from the same conference, only 4 (not 6) additional invitations will be given. If a flyer moves from one conference to another during the year, the conference that he/she represents at the convention will get the additional invitation. For the 1994 convention, additional invitations will go to the conference the flyer would have been in given the 6 conference system being used in 1994. In other words a flyer from the western (1993) conference earns additional invitations for either the pacific or northwest conference depending on where he/she lives. Supporting data: ---------------- In 1993 each conference was at a competitive disadvantage in at least one event class. The following statistics demonstrate the situation. These are rough figures based on a quick tally of the 1993 season results.
