I called, Carloyn Moore the other day to follow up on the Wandering Wizards European Adventure. Chris was out equalizing his line so Carloyn and I talked about how we were going to set this up. Carloyn was a bit concerned, she said that she had received a package from someone regarding the next American Kiteflyers Assoc. (AKA) conference meeting. The package contained information from someone, who apparently thinks that it's necessary for the AKA to reconsider the membership of one Mr.Nasty. Now Carloyn was a bit upset and just couldn't believe that the AKA would spend that much time on something so dumb. She told Maggie, that it would be rediculious to spend that much time on the subject. She said that she also told Maggie that the AKA should spend that much time on more important issues. I couldn't agree more. This message is for all the AKA board members who are on-line. I really don't care what you decide to do with the status of my membership. I know I have pissed some of you off. I also know I have brought up subjects which have put you on the spot, especially when I make you stick to the discussion. I have no control over your own embarrassment. I do not control what your board members do without thinking and who cannot understand or comprehend simple english. The internet is a valueable tool. One which provides us all the opportunity to hold open discussions. Discussions about everything from how long line length should be to which way water flows to rules. All are related in one way or another to "KITING". There are times, in every discussion, for business and silliness, all of which is related. When members of your board or other AKA members take it upon themselves to control the discussion and use some adhoc argument to demean or discredit someone, they embarass the association. These people, not me, give the appearance of a group which wants its membership to be dominated by a select few. If the representatives of the AKA cannot answer a direct question or feel it is more important to avoid the main topic by creating some adhoc tanget to the issue, it is not my fault. How does this create the appearence of an association which is open to new ideas? I cannot help that I keep informed about the current events within the kiting community. It is important to me because I sincerly enjoy every aspect of the sport and the hobby. I also have concern for the growth of the sport. It irritates me to see inconsistancies at events. It bothers me that a sanctioned event can disregard the rules and still receive all the benefits of sanctioning. It bothers me that the AKA would consider allowing the scores of an event which was not sanctioned. (no David "snoop" Gomberg not New Orleans) It pisses me off that the AKA would spend money to research and setup a web page without first making a general announcement to its members. It bites my ass that a few individuals hold themselves above all others. I can't believe it when I read posts from your board members who state that no one else out there in cyberspace or the membership, "is intelligent enough to know what to do. That is arragont and selfish. It bothers me that the AKA Event Chairman turned down a potential site for the convention without having any valid reasons. Yet, the board has no site for 98, and as many cons as pros about the sites for the next two years. I don't expect anyone to consider South Padre Island site unseen. But doesn't the AKA pay someone who I think is called the event manager? Why doesn't he use some of these funds to visit a few of the potiential sites. Oh, he doesn't have to visit WildWood, or Miami, or San Diego, that would be pretty dumb. But what about other poential sites. Has he done this? If so, where is the information in the board minutes. If not, why not? It really pisses me off when I hear competitors mention what a mess the AKA scores information number is in and know that the same individual is part of this web team. He can't finish one job so the AKA allows him to take on more responsibility. How responsible is the AKA? Is this an association for the membership, or is that just a convient adage? Now, spend some time looking at reality and the real issues. I realize you are just volunteers, you can't do everything, so don't. Open up new ideas and projects to the members. There should be a limit to the number of committees and projects any members can be involved with. This would curtail someone like Darrin Skinner from keeping a job he can't finish. Yes, I know that the board consists of members, but that is another one of those riduculously stupid arguments. BTW - for those of you who are not on-line let me provide you with a few simple facts. 1. rec.kites is visited by over 20,000 readers per month 2. this post has gone out and is available to those readers 3. a number of status quo individuals, including the author of the letter you are contemplating spending a few hours on, have sucessfully painted a pretty picture of the elistist attitude within AKA, (esp. Marty and Andrew). 4. an equal number of concerned individuals write me personally who are just as concerned about the lack of responsibility within the AKA. 5. you can reject my membership but you can't kick me off of rec.kites 6. i have offered to work with various committees and have been told that they (board members) are not interested in anyones assistance (publicly)this has left a interesting impression on any interested potential members 7. I have never said you have to do anything "my way", but we have already tried it your way, my way couldn't be any more dumb than your way. This is a bit late but I just thought I would post it anyway. I just talked with Mel, who insured me that I was still an AKA member, I got so tickled I went pee pee.
