Hmm.. I think your first problem is that you may not have a Vanishing Point. I think you may be confusing the new indoor Bad Boy (also called the Vanishing Point) with the standard Bad Boy with colored wing tips. The VP is a one piece sail (last I checked) with no applique. Curious.... >As you know, this is my first Airmaster kite and I am very impressed >with the workmanship and quality that Peter has built into this kite. We both appreciate the kind comments, I'm sure... >A few of us tried to fly the kite indoors on very short lines,(10ft.) >and had some difficulty. WOW ! your a reasonably good light wind flier and on 10' lines you should theoretically be able to yank a full sized hawaiin around with little problem.. Even the standard Bad Boy should have gone up... But I still wonder if you have a VP... >What length do you fly indoors on? How do >keep the bridle set? I fly on 15' lines indoors (cieling permitting) and I bump the bridle a smidge, but most people like it just the way it comes set... I just think it floats better up about a 1/4" > It seemed to me that the kite needed more lift, >and I was unsure of which part of the bridle I should mess with. I usually don't play with the outhauls... that adjusts sterrablity in high winds ( and the abuilty to dump wind in high wind situations ) I would just bump the first leg adjustment about a 1/4" and give it a shot again. >I think I might upgrade to the "gold" spars, but I am unfamiliar with >the new rods. Any info would be appreciated. Sheesh.. they are, like, real expensive and I know that Peter is doing some R&D on them and they are obviusly going to be super special order. > I can't wait to get this puppy outside for a real workout. I know the feeling.. beat it up.. let us know what you think in private E-Mail.. >This may replace my X-1 as my preferred ultralight. Cool.... Even if you have the regular 3p Bad Boy.. It'll do that.. I'll chat with Peter and find out if there is anything odd about your specific kite that may be throing me for a loop as to it's model. I'll get back to you with any info... Of course I forgot to tape the event so I can't remember the mfgr of the 1oz kite. Pilot was just whiping it and not walking backward much at all. It was the neatest thing. MOVE over other projects it's Icarex time this weekend !!! Think I'll try bonding it with that 3M tape and use 1/16" carbon rod or maybe the tips off some fishing pole scrap that I have acquired. What you saw was an x4i from Buena Vista Kites. >Pilot was just whiping it and not walking backward much at all. Yes, Peter Werba, the designer and owner of BVK, knows how to work that thing pretty well. -- +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary | | safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." | | -Benjamin Franklin, _Historical_Review_of_Pennsylvania_, 1759. | | Chuck Sigal | | Albany, CA, USA Voice/Fax: +1.510.527.3547 e-mail: cjsigal@netcom.com | +-------------------------------------------------------------------------+ = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Sat, 11 Nov 1995 05:42:39 -1000 From: Howard Fried Message-Id: <482g9f$7jq@arther.castle.net> Organization: Enable Consulting Group, Inc. Maybe even in my antiproductivity pod (cubicle). The name of the kite is either X4i or 4Xi. I am waiting for my custom indoor minergy to be completed by Guildworks, hopefully sometime today. I saw Curtis Mitchell flying one during the Boston Area Stunt Kite Championships (BASKC) banquet, while sitting in a chair. I don't fly as well as he does, but a kite that can be flown almost anywhere in zero wind is worth the price. BTW, for other indoor flying nuts, If you are going to be in the Boston area over the weekend of Dec. 2, e-mail me for directions to the indoor fly in Marblehead. I rented the high school gym for Saturday night. - John ------------------------------------------------------------------------- - John Ruggiero jruggiero@techg.com - - TechGnosis, Inc. - - Voice: 617-229-6100 Fax: 617-229-0557 - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
