I figured that Jason would. Anyway, Air Master is Peter Bettancourt, who used to live in Brooklyn but is now in California somewhere. (Though he has been present at a number of East Coast competitions, most recently BASKC...who knows, he may show up at Newport this weekend) He makes stunt kites, but I have no knowledge of him making fighter kites. Unfortunately I don't have his phone number, though I think it was in the program for the ECSKC at Wildwood and probably was in several other programs, as he has been advertising this year. Jason Benedict should have info on his phone number and whereabouts. Me? I'm off to Newport and then a week off the network while I'm in Maine. The Air Master flys (in my opinion) much lighter than either of the above. It is a different design and architecture. Although I like the Jabberwocky (and other of Bob's stuff) it is FAR from a light wind kite. I may be slightly jaded, but many of the "light" wind stuff out there doesn't fly as light as the Air Master. In addition, many feel that the Air Master has a tendency to be more precise in super light winds than any of the flatter sailed kites that you have mentioned. But don't take my word for it. Fly one.. you'll love it. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Wed, 30 Nov 1994 06:42:52 -1000 From: sasaki@netopd.harvard.edu (Marty Sasaki) Message-Id: <3bia2c$r5u@necco.harvard.edu> Organization: Harvard OIT Network Services Subject: Re: Air Master In article <3be6v7$97j@newsbf01.news.aol.com>, lwien@aol.com (LWien) writes: |>Hdow does tha Air Master compare to the Phantom or the Jabberwocky, or the |>Maxi Edge for light wind flying ????? This really depends on what you mean by light wind flying. Do you mean no wind? Do you mean 3 mph? 2? 1? The Phantom and Jabberwocky fly nicely in light wind. If you are a complete beginner, you probably need around 5 for either. If you are more skilled then you can probably fly down in 3 or 4. I also like the newer Maxi-Edges for light wind flying, especially the ones framed in SkyShark rods. The Advantage framed kites are heavier and the frame is more flexible. In my opinion, all of the Edges fly better with stiffer frames. Other light wind kites that I like are the XTC by Buena Vista, X-1 by Jordan Air, and of course the Ultra-light Katana and Ultra-light California Katana, both made by Sasaki Kite Fabrications. I also have a new Katana/XL which is a California Katana with a 10 foot wingspan, framed in SkyShark wrapped rods and Icarex fabric. For zero wind and indoor, try the XTC indoor kite, or the X-1 microlite. I haven't flown Jordan's new Millinium, but folks rave about it. I also make a California Katana made from Orcon and Icarex on Avia Windsport Skinnies. As you can see, there are all sorts of kites that might work for you. My advice is to try and fly any of these kites before buying. They are all slightly different in the way they fly, and the way they look. -- Marty Sasaki Harvard University Sasaki Kite Fabrications sasaki@noc.harvard.edu Network Services Division 26 Green Street 617-496-4320 10 Ware Street Jamaica Plain, MA 02130 Cambridge, MA 02138-4002 phone/fax: 617-522-8546 = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Thu, 1 Dec 1994 05:18:45 -1000 From: JBENEDICT@LAW.FORDHAM.EDU (Jason Benedict) Message-Id: <941201101845.20201f30@LAW.FORDHAM.EDU> Organization: Division of Applied Sciences, Harvard University Subject: Air Master In response to LWEIN@AOL.COM : Air Master is made by Peter Betacourt in Santa Cruz, C.A.
