Nope. Last year, kevin@hawaii.edu posted the whole leaflet, bit didn't mention "Air Cloth". I guess you are quoting from a new brochure. On a related note, in rec.skydiving, they sometimes mention ZPO - Zero POrosity fabric. Does anyone know about this? Is it a particular brand that might be interesting to kitemakers or is it a generic term for the stuff that we use already? I've asked in rec.skydiving but been ignored (we're all a dumb newbie somewhere). Andrew -- Yes Karen, some of us *do* care! Netiquette-of-the-day: Take care to attribute quotes correctly. You can FTP the kite FAQ's from ftp.hawaii.edu (directory /pub/rec/kites/faq) The FAQ's have lists of kites, kite stores, kite questions, kite books & plans. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Tue, 31 May 1994 06:03:13 -1000 From: jbenedict@law.fordham.edu (Jason Benedict) Message-Id: Organization: Division of Applied Sciences, Harvard University Subject: air Cloth I believe the material reffered to as "Air Cloth" may better be known as "Sati Air Cloth" that was the predominant material used by TC Powers when he was sewing the custom kites for Mike Simmons of Skyward for a while. A nice smooth sail cloth, rather light ( in comparison to 3/4 nylon ) and incredibly durable. Nowadays, I'd stick with Icarex. A slight correction. All non-UL Ultras are still sewn from Sati Air Cloth. TC loves the stuff... >A nice smooth sail cloth, rather light ( in comparison to 3/4 nylon ) and >incredibly durable. Nowadays, I'd stick with Icarex. Sati is a high quality fabric, extremely low porosity, very good UV resistance (at least for nylon; colors stay bright), and a fair amount of stretch, not unlike Carrington. Somebody recently asked about sewing sails to intentionally stretch; the Ultra is one such kite, and this is why TC continues to use Sati on the non- ultralight sails. Jeff -- |Jeffrey C.
