I was planning on trying this too, in the hope that it would deliver more grunt lower down, and also be quicker transitioning from stall to flight. Nop? Anyone? Andrew -- New to rec.kites? I would expect slower flying speed with thicker profiles. In fact I am myself planning to use thinner profiles on my next Sputnik (do not know when that will be though). I still think that buidling up flying speed is the most efficient method of increasing lift out of your foil. In that way you will also be alowed optimal control of the amount of pull. The more you move your wing around the more pull; keep the kite steady at the edge for minimal pull. My earlier Sputniks ( 1, 2 and 3 ) had thicker profiles, but also of a different shape so a serious comparison is difficult. The Sputnik-4 profile is a lot more efficient in speed and lift then any other I know off. The new Quadrifoil Competition seems to be a serious threat, I should be checking out its profile shape one off these days. It will be a 1.85 m2 with a 280cm wingspan and 25thick profiles. We'll see how it goes. Ken = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
