Darrin P.S. I've been real busy lately and have not been reading rec.kites. I apologize to those (with the excpetion of Frank, who I've added to my kill file) that are/were waiting on me to answer postings. ======================================================================= Message from dgomberg@ednet1.osl.or.gov (David Gomberg) follows: Date: Tue, 20 Dec 1994 12:08:08 -0800 Message-Id: <199412202008.AA08710@ednet1.osl.or.gov> From: dgomberg@ednet1.osl.or.gov (David Gomberg) To: kites@das.harvard.edu Subject: Response to Typo Reply-To: dgomberg@ednet1.osl.or.gov In his most recent post, Frank Keniski asks why AKA is failing to answer his questions or provide information to members. While there is always room for improvement, AKA makes a sincere effort to include our members in discussions, and communicate our decision. Frank is not currently a member. But there are numerous opportunities for ANYONE to participate in our policy process. At each convention, we hold open meetings where members can ask questions or propose changes. At the official business meeting, any member can make a motion which, if approved, is binding on the Board. We also have special meetings for sport kite fliers to discuss rules and competition. In 1993 and '94, over 250 members attended these sport kite meetings. Our automated telephone system can be used by members or non-members. We announce a summary of rules, post current rankings, and explain who to call for more information. We also publish proposals and reports in our membership newsletter, Kiting. It is mailed to 5000 members and sold in 150 kite stores around the USA. Kiting includes minutes from each Board meeting, and a full-page report from the president in each issue. Here are some examples of other articles in recent issues: "1994 Final Results" A four page insert including rules, qualification procedures, and and a complete list of the top ten fliers from each conference by category. Sept '94. "Sport Kite Update" An update on the Olympics proposal, 1994 sport kite symposium, and international efforts involving AJSKA and STACK. Sept '94. "Conference Update" Overview of rules, list of committee members and phone numbers, clarification of new policies. May '94. "Sport Kite Rule Proposals" Overview of changes being considered. Request for feedback. Jan '94. Sport Kite Symposium Report" Changes approved by membership at 1993 meeting. Scoring formula changes and list of committee members with phone numbers. Nov '93 In addition, I personally respond to written and telephone inquiries. Each committee member does the same. I can't begin to tell you how many hours Genny, Darrin, and Vern have spent taking input and answering questions. That being said, i think many of you will be pleased to hear that I am adopting Marty's "Kenisk Policy". No awknowledgement; no response; no matter what. If ANYONE else has questions, I will be PLEASED to correspond with you. The fellow is rude. Courtesy is important in these matters. Discourteous people are not important. I will also admit that I was personally offended by his "Jews in the Sky" remark. Frank says it was a typo. His past performance suggests otherwise. Jews - Jewels? Hey, anyone could have made that mistake. Right! And his response? He says now that he didn't mean to insult club members by calling them "Jews". Happy Hannukah, Frank. -- David Gomberg phone: 503-996-3083 7200 Highland Road fax: 503-994-9692 Otis, Oregon 97368 USA = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = Date: Tue, 3 Jan 1995 17:10:30 -1000 From: nity@aol.com (Nity) Message-Id: <3ed3j6$31d@newsbf02.news.aol.com> Organization: America Online, Inc.
