There is nothing new under the sun. If I recall correctly, Peter Powell started with a single line kite that veered to one side, then added a line to correct it. He had fun with this, so he built a kite with three lines, one to fly by, one to go left and one to go right. Then he realised he could do without the middle line :-) And I would be most surprised if *he* was the first...
