Subject: 1996 commercials usa ???? 1995 was a pretty good year for Kites in T.V. commercials and actually even in American sit-coms.. How was it on the other side of the pond? Because each time regular folks appear on T.V. having fun with kites...of all kinds (Sport/single-line and even byggies) it has the potential of catching the interest of potential new fliers. National advertisers MUST have realized this or there would not be an increasing amount of these scenes. 95 showed us kids running over hill and dale with diamond kites, tails flying in the wind in a Sears commercial. Ford gave us another scene and a childrens hospital in Canada did another. Of course Childrens Hosp. in San Diego is the old stand-by as they even feature a kite in their logo. How many others did you see in 95. The more advertisers who continue this technique, the more new POTENTIAL customers kite shops have. AND...the more FLIERS, manufactures have to produce product for! They wanted an "attractive pilot" (not me) and a powerkite. Agreed to it ( being a small company and liking the free add ) to cooperate. Took 375 takes and a whole day at the beach. Only half of the expences were paid for and the result: about 1/3 second kite at the upper left part of the screen. So much for kite promotion. Never going to do it again. Just take a few kites extra for people to try is a far better way to promote. It was for a European Life Insurance company. We never saw it since it was only for European release. It was quite an experience. It is running now in the Northern California market...any where else? Shows Stunt Kite in the background of one, single line in background of another. Looks like filmed maybe in the San Francisco area. Hope they sell lots of product so they use lots more of ours in their ads! Saw a clip on empty-v of some rapper down at the beach with a huge rainbow flowform with a whirling windsock over his shoulder.
