(1-800-827-6364) Subject: 1.5 Advantage Found out some info on this spar after a few questions were raised as to exactly what "it " was. As explained to me, the term 1.5 wrap is a relative term within the Advantage family of spars. There is not exactly 1.5 layers of wrap on the mandrel, but a smaller mandrel is used with the same thickness of wrap as the Advantage 2 wrap. Less length to go around>>>smaller i.d., less fabric, less weight. Hope this helps?!? Also, the new kite out by Revolution is a dual line kite called the "Advantage Classic". I think this is the one Hoy talked about in his report on the KTA. Another also>> There is a rumor that Revolution may be coming out with a 1.5 Revolution quad?!?! Don't know the intended appilication. Maybe as a traction kite, or as an indoor kite. Excuse me for being sceptical, but could someone *measure* some Advantage sticks? I'd like to know the thickness of the wall. Don't measure at the end, where the thickness is built up. Does anyone have a stock of broken rev-sticks? I'm looking for the minimum and maximum thickness (it's ribbed, remember...) and for pitch of the helix for different sticks. I spent a summer about 20 years ago working at a major fiberglass and carbon fiber spar manufacturer, but I'm not precisely sure about current practices so you may take this with an indeterminate amount of NaCl. Those helical marks on an Advantage x-wrap spar are a manufaturing process artifact caused by the Cellophane overwrap used to compress the trapizoidal piece of epoxy empregnated fabric wrapped around a solid metal rod. The Celtape is 1/2 or 3/4 inch tape that keeps the fabric from bubbleing and deforming during high temperature and pressure curing. Once the spar has been cured, it is forced off the mandrel by an hydraulic press. All the "Wrapped" spars that do not have this spiral around them have been sanded down to a uniform diameter for cosmetic reasons. Pultruded spars are formed by pushing fibers and plastic epoxy through a die. This results in longitudinal fibers only. I have no familiarity with the Advantage 1.5 wrap nomenclature. -- Sixty-Six Humanoids, Stoned On A Chain Saw, Murder Three TV Personalities -- --Brian Johnsen johnsen@eskimo.com Seattle, Washington USA = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
