Document: /pub/resources/text/Our.Daily.Bread: db931230.TXT ----------------------------------------------------------- OUR DAILY BREAD Thursday, December 30, 1993 --------------- Read: Psalm 121 SINGING WHILE WE WALK My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. --Psalm 121:2 Singing makes our journey through life easier. Singing takes a lot of stress out of the trip and smooths over many of the rough places in the road, especially when we sing praises to the God who made heaven and earth and who cares for each mile of the way. Psalm 121 was sung by the Hebrew pilgrims as they walked to Jerusalem to celebrate the yearly feast. The song not only passed the time, but it reminded them of the ways God took care of them. The Hebrew word for keep is repeated six times in the psalm (though in some versions it is translated preserve, or protect, or guard). This song uses four word pictures to help His people see God as the One who keeps them secure on their journey through life. 1. He is the God of the towering hills, who gives help to His people (vv.1-2). 2. He is the God of the night watch, who neither slumbers nor sleeps (vv.3-4). 3. He is the God who provides friendly shade to protect from the elements that might hurt us (vv.5-6). 4. He is the God of the house and of the road, who looks after us in all our comings and goings (vv.7-8). Keep trusting God. He keeps you in His keeping. Author: Haddon W.
