SURFnet EUnet To reach this situation the following steps are to be taken. 1. Ebone connectivity 1.1 Amsterdam-Stockholm The line from KTH to CWI that ends at present at scan-gw.nordu.net will be moved to end at ibr-router.surfnet.nl and will be upgraded to 512 Kb. Prerequisites are: 1.1.1 EUnet has a formal arrangement to use the EASInet T1. Untill then EUnet will have to use scan-gw as secondary "default gateway". I don't know the status of this. 1.1.2 The upgrade from 256 Kb to 512 Kb has to be ordered with the Dutch endpoint at SARA, or the endpoint of the present line must be moved from CWI to SARA. As the line is owned (I think) by NORDUnet and as the upgrade will be (or is) ordered by NORDUnet the timescale has to come from NORDUnet. 1.2 Amsterdam-CERN The SARA-CERN line will be upgraded to 512 Kb and IDNX's will be used. Prerequisites are: 1.2.1 Upgrade the line. The upgrade is ordered. Delivery is scheduled for May 1. 1.2.2 Install the IDNX at SARA The IDNX at SARA is delivered and will be installed March 31, but will be inserted in the SARA-CERN line only after the upgrade to 512 Kb. Allocated bandwith will be 448 Kb for IP, 32 Kb for CLNP, 20 Kb IDNX signalling and management, 12 Kb wasted. Some testing will be needed. Therefore the 256 Kb will stay available untill June 1. The 448 Kb will therefore become operational somewhere between May 1 and June 1, probably closer to May 1 then to June 1. 1.2.3 The IDNX at CERN is ready to connect the Amsterdam-CERN line to. 2. Regional connectivity 2.1 SURFnet SURFnet will connect to the Amsterdam EBS through an Ethernet connection. This Ethernet (ibr-lan) is already present and operational. On March 23 some restructuring will be done to remove sara1-router from the ibr-lan. The SURFnet router connected will be renamed to amsterdam1.router.surfnet.nl. 2.2 EUnet EUnet will connect to the Amsterdam EBS through an Ethernet connection. This Ethernet (ibr-lan) is already present and operational. The EUnet connection is fully operational. 2.3 IXI The IXI connection is at present provided by Nikhef. It will be moved to a PTT router that starts with a connection to hef-router.nikhef.nl and will eventually be moved to ibr-router.surfnet.nl. Time schedule at present unknown. 2.4 RedIRIS Connection via a leased line to ibr-router. Line is ordered and will be delivered on June 1 (This is what I remember. Erik-Jan, please confirm or correct) For ibr-router a 4T cisco card is ordered. Delivery date not known yet. 2.5 Leuven No information. An interface on ibr-router will be available.
